Jump of the month - Cornish Bank Complex

When course designer David Evans first came to the site last year, he was very excited about how many natural landscape features there were to work with. This complex is a great example of doing just that.

Originally a circle of hedges around a boggy "pond", I've put a firm base in the middle and added timber to the hedges to make them into Cornish Banks. The complex has 4 such banks from 2'6 to 3', one of which is curved around the corner, a step and a gap to trot in through, which gives a wide variety of combinations on various curved lines.

The turf on the banks hasn't quite settled in yet but the complex will be open within the next couple of weeks.

After the success of August's group lessons and requests for more, I've booked Michelle to teach again this Saturday 25th September from 10am.

Michelle Matthews has competed eventing to Intermediate level for 15 years and teaches freelance at all levels and is a top level pony club examiner.

Finding an instructor and enough friends to keep the costs down can be difficult so I'll sort riders into groups of similar abilities from first-timers to Pre-Novice so whether you come on your own or with friends you'll still get the most out of your lesson.

Lessons will be about an hour and half to 2 hours long and will cost £20 which includes hire of the cross country course. If you book more than one place, I'll give you £1 discount for each extra place.

Call me, Walter, right away 01823 681450 to book or email me.

A visit from DEFRA's "Official for the horse

On a windy August day, Paul Bradley from DEFRA came to East Devon to learn about LEADER+ and to visit the Blackdown Hills local action group. As part of his tour he visited a few of the projects funded by the Rural Partnership including the Blackdown Hills Cross Country course where he was able to learn a little about eventing as well.
